There was a meeting on economic development of Turkmenistan chaired by the head of state during which the President reprimanded the Minister of Economy due to the growth of debts to the state budget. The meeting also reviewed the results of the economic, financial and banking spheres for the past year.
The Turkmen leader noted shortcomings in the work of Muhammetgeldi Serdarov, the head of the Ministry of Finance and Economy. President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov called the work of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan ineffective. Because of this, at the end of 2020 significantly the debt to the state budget has increased.
Thus, the Leader of the Nation emphasized the obvious problems in paying contractors for work performed under the National Rural Program. This led to the fact that many of the facilities being built in rural areas have been abandoned since 2015. There was also a lack of control over the implementation of settlements with contractors, which led to the formation of significant debts to them.
According to the President, the total number of inter-branch debts reached 12 billion manats (about $3.4 billion) last year. The head of the country also noted the inconsistency of the work aimed at privatization of state property.
