The President of Turkmenistan signed a decree to improve the country's transport infrastructure, authorizing the state institution "Türkmendeňizderýaýollary"To conclude a contract with the Balkan Shipbuilding and Repair Plant for the construction of two new dry-cargo vessels. This is reported in the daily Neutral Turkmenistan.
The contract is part of the Turkmen government's efforts to further develop the country's transportation sector. New vessels will join the agency's fleet " Türkmendeňizderýaýollary"which carries out cargo transportation on the Caspian Sea, as well as on the canals and rivers of Turkmenistan. Modernization of transport infrastructure is one of the priority areas of the Government of Turkmenistan aimed at increasing economic growth rates.
The construction of new vessels was entrusted to the joint-stock company "Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Plant "Balkan". This state-owned enterprise is one of the largest shipbuilding enterprises in the region.
The new dry bulk carriers will increase Türkmendeňizderýaýollary's capacity to transport goods and materials domestically and abroad. The government views the expansion of the transportation sector as essential to support international trade and economic development.
