Turkmenistan Elected Vice-President of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly

Turkmenistan was elected vice chairman of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. This momentous event took place on June 29 at the UN headquarters in New York. This step testifies first of all to the successful foreign policy of the country and is a new impetus for further cooperation at the international level to implement the global initiatives of the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.

This is not the first time Turkmenistan has been elected vice-chairman of the UN General Assembly. In this status, the country participated in the 58th, 62nd, 64th, 68th and 71st sessions. Now this is the sixth time Turkmenistan has been delegated this power.

One of the fundamental directions of Turkmenistan's activity in the international arena, in accordance with the priorities defined by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, is the expansion of a diverse strategic partnership with the UN. And at the moment, the scope of this dialogue is increasingly expanding.

In turn, the UN supports the policy of the Turkmen leader. This is evidenced, for example, by a number of resolutions adopted by the organization and initiated by the Turkmen side. Thus, at the instigation of Turkmenistan, the UN approved 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Confidence. This is particularly relevant, given the current complex trends taking place in world politics.

The Framework Program of Partnership in Sustainable Development, adopted for the period 2021-2025, is also aimed at strengthening cooperation with the UN. The purpose of the document is to promote the future development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the international organization in a variety of areas.

The date of June 29 is also symbolic. This date is the birthday of Arkadag, and 2020 is the celebration of the quarter-century anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutral status.
