Turkmenistan discussed joint use of rivers with Afghanistan

Turkmenistan and Afghanistan plan to Strengthen partnerships on water management issues. This was discussed by the participants of the relevant commission at the 4th meeting on November 22. The position of our country was presented by the specialists of the State Committee for Water Management and State Border Service, and from the Afghan side - by the staff of the specialized ministry.

The main focus of the meeting prospects for the use of transboundary rivers The two countries (in particular, the effluents of the Amu Darya, Murghab, and Tejen). The participants stressed the importance of rivers for Central Asian countries, as they are the most important source of water resources for population, agriculture, and power generation.

After the meeting, the diplomats signed a protocol on a strategy for further cooperation in the sphere of Turkmen-Afghan water use.
