The 17th open international chess tournament "Georgiy Agzamov Memorial" dedicated to the memory of the first grandmaster of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent, Turkmen chess players took part in it. This is reported by the Asmannews online edition.
A total of 247 chess players from 18 countries took part in the competition, competing in groups "A" and "B" under the Swiss system in 10 rounds. Turkmenistan was represented in the strongest group "A" by two athletes - international master Saparmurat Atabaev and FIDE master Jemal Ovezdurdiyeva.
Saparmurat took 10th place in the overall standings, earning 6.5 points. The athlete lacked 0.5 points to fulfill the International Grandmaster score. Jemal took 27th place in the overall standings, earning 5.5 points. The Turkmen athlete became the first among women, ahead of rivals from Uzbekistan.
