Turkmen publicist Akiniyazov prepared a material on Makhtumkuli Fraghi

As it is known, in 2024 Turkmenistan is preparing to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of writer and thinker Makhtumkuli Fraghi. Consultant centralasia.news Serdar Akiniyazov shared mentions of the philosopher's contemporaries about his work.

The publicist said that V.A. Sboyev, a professor at Kazan University, was one of the first to mention Makhtumkuli's name in Russia. He spoke about the poet Fraghi on the pages of "Kazanskie Gubernskie Vedomosti" as an "eastern grave-digger".

Arminius Vambery, an orientalist and traveler from Hungary, spoke about Makhtumkuli as a person "deified" by the Turkmen people. The scholar took with him manuscripts of his poems, which he later published in Germany.

Russian writer M.E.Saltykov-Shchedrin called the poet an oriental Schiller. The researcher F.Bakulin noted that Fraghi is "especially respected by all Turkmens", and the scientist orientalist A.E.Krymsky spoke about Makhtumkuli as a legend.

Belarusian poet A.Khodzko was the first to translate Fraghi's poems into English and published them in London together with the biography of the poet, which started the acquaintance of Europeans with the work of the Turkmen thinker.

The poet's poems in the Turkmen language were placed in "Turkish Chrestomathy" by I.N.Berezin, a professor of St. Petersburg University.
