On July 10, Foreign Minister Ruslan Meredov met with representatives of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, who came to Turkmenistan to study preparations for COVID-19.
Meredov emphasized Turkmenistan's productive cooperation with the WHO over many years and reaffirmed Turkmenistan's desire to continue developing relations with the organization, including on COVID-19 issues. He also noted that the country strictly follows the WHO's prescriptions for the pandemic period.
Head of WHO Country Office P. Karwowska thanked the Minister for the opportunity and organization of WHO ERO work in Turkmenistan. Ms. Karvovska highly appreciated the initiatives of Turkmenistan to create an international Council of medical scientists, as well as connection of the country to C-TAP - "Technology Access Platform against COVID-19".
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared the strategic plans in effect during the pandemic in the country. These are the Plan of preparedness against acute infectious diseases, the Plan of operational measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In addition, together with the UN, a 3rd plan is being developed dealing with humanitarian issues.
The Minister stressed that the country has the necessary resources to respond quickly in case of need. There is also education of the population about the level of danger of COVID-19, given its ability to spread through the tiniest drops.
The response to the acute infectious disease was also discussed at a meeting between the WHO ERO and representatives of the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan, which took place on the same day.
