Growing bananas in Turkmenistan - a new step towards import substitution

Miwe Open Joint Stock Company has started selling its own bananas in Turkmenistan for the first time. This is part of the country's efforts to modernize its economy and reduce dependence on imported goods. Representatives of Miwe OJSC informed Arzuw NEWS on Saturday. So far, Miwe bananas are sold in the domestic market of Turkmenistan. But soon the company plans to start exporting the yellow fruit abroad.

The company has built a 5 hectare greenhouse complex equipped with advanced technologies for banana cultivation. Various varieties of Cavendish bananas are grown in the greenhouses. Miwe greenhouses use automated irrigation, feeding and climate control systems. The bananas grow for 9 months before harvesting. New shoots allow for continuous harvesting. Bananas are highly nutritious, containing vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are good for health. Company representatives assure that their production follows all environmental practices.

Miwe greenhouses allow two banana harvests per year. In the first year, 35-40 kilograms of fruit were harvested from each bush. In the future, the company plans to increase yields.

Encouraged by the initial success, the company plans to expand greenhouses to grow other exotic fruits such as mangoes, avocados, and others. This will further promote import substitution and the growth of Turkmenistan's export potential.

Miwe's innovative initiatives are supported by government policy for the development of private business and agriculture in Turkmenistan. Their success clearly demonstrates the benefits of introducing advanced technologies in agribusiness.
