Turkmenistan intends to continue its multi-vector partnership with UNESCO. The signing of a multilateral agreement on protection and development of the world natural and cultural heritage site - Zarafshan-Karakum corridor, which used to be an important part of the Great Silk Road, is another evidence of it. The agreement was signed between the Ministries of Culture of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The signing ceremony took place online. UNESCO delegates at the Paris headquarters were also virtually present. Among them were the UNESCO Permanent Delegates to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The interests of Turkmenistan were represented at the online signing by the head of the Ministry of Culture A. Shamuradov, who put his signature under the aforementioned agreement.
It should be noted that through these actions, Turkmenistan has reaffirmed its desire to intensify a multi-vector dialogue, proving its desire to develop cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, not only at the regional but also at the international level.
In his book devoted to the Great Silk Road, the leader of the Turkmen nation, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, calls Turkmenistan the heart of this most important transport and transit corridor for ancient times.
Turkmenistan is determined to intensify cooperation with UNESCO in all existing areas. Working for many years with structures of this organization and its specialists, the country has achieved significant successes in culture, science, education and ecology.
