A delegation from Turkmenistan participated in the fourth regional workshop on strengthening the sustainability of Central Asian countries through cooperation in the assessment of nival and glacial systems, which was held in Kyrgyzstan in early August. Arzuw.news reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.
The event was held in the conference hall of the Marco Polo Hotel near the village of Boz Beshik on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul. The seminar was attended by representatives of five states in the region: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The workshop opened with a meeting on cryosphere education in Central Asia, which summarized the work of the country teams of specialists from government agencies. The final consultations of these groups were held in Ashgabat in May this year.
The participants developed a common vision of joint actions in response to ice mass reduction in high-mountain areas. Scientists analyzed snow cover dynamics, models for responding to water surplus and deficit, and assessed the region's water reserves in the high-mountain cryosphere.
The results of the workshop will be reflected in the subregional cryosphere action program and national action plans of the participating countries.
On the final day, the participants visited the Tien Shan High Mountain Research Center under the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Although Turkmenistan lacks permanent glaciers, snow cover on the peaks of Kopetdag and Koytendag provides moisture recharge and nourishment for small rivers. The country's participation in the regional initiative is important for environmental management planning and agricultural development.
