UN adopts Awazi Declaration for 2024-2034

Strategic relevance of the Awazi Political Declaration

The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries ended with the adoption of the Avazi Political Declaration, which defined a new strategic agenda for 2024-2034. This is reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

The conference participants recognized that the completion of the Vienna Programme of Action 2014-2024 was not successful enough, especially in the areas of financing and infrastructure development. Therefore, a new program with five key development areas was developed.

The Awazi Declaration identified priority areas of work: structural transformation and innovation, trade, transit and transport, climate change adaptation, and resource mobilization to realize the identified goals.

Turkmenistan put forward an initiative to declare 2025 the "International Year of Peace and Trust", emphasizing the link between peace and sustainable development. The idea of establishing regional agricultural research centers to strengthen food security was also proposed.

The Conference decided to establish a high-level expert group on free transit under the auspices of the UN. This structure will address transit barriers and simplify customs procedures.

Participants also supported the establishment of a financing mechanism for infrastructure investment to address resource gaps and attract private investment. The role of the Office of the High Representative in coordinating and monitoring program implementation will be strengthened.

The new strategy is integrated with global programs, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Climate Agreement. The conference participants expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for organizing the event and noted its significant role in global cooperation.
