The OSCE conducted a media literacy course for Turkmenistan's media outlets

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe held a two-day training course on media literacy for representatives of national media and government agencies of Turkmenistan on September 16-17. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.

The training was organized for participants in the implementation of the National Human Rights Action Plan 2021-2025 as it relates to freedom of the media. The course was conducted by two national trainers who were trained at the OSCE Center in Ashgabat in 2024-2025, with online support from an international expert from Kazakhstan.

During the training, trainers introduced the concept of media and information literacy, including the five laws of media literacy as categorized by UNESCO. The program covered the study of international and national legal regulation in the field of media literacy.

William Leaf, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, referred to the OSCE 2021 Recommendations "In Focus: Artificial Intelligence and Freedom of Expression" in his welcome address. He emphasized the importance of improving digital literacy to better manage media content consumption.

The course participants studied fact-checking tools, fact-checking formats and the peculiarities of working with artificial intelligence in government agencies. The practical part included writing press releases using AI tools and discussing the rights and responsibilities of social media users.

The OSCE Centre had previously organized the first such course with three national trainers in 2025.
