About Russian-Turkmen relations the Ambassador put it this way:
I would estimate today's relations with Turkmenistan at a high level. Last year our trade turnover increased one and a half times. We have good relations across the entire spectrum, both in the political and economic spheres. Trade turnover last year amounted to 695 million dollars, not counting gas. Compared to 2018, this is a very good figure. The first half of this year, too, shows an increase in trade turnover. We have quite large projects, in particular, Vozrozhdenie (Russian construction company - editor's note). won the tender for the construction of agricultural protection structures around Ashgabat. We are grateful to the Turkmen side for their efforts to maintain the level of strategic partnership and mutual trust.
Ambassador Blokhin added that exports from Russia to Turkmenistan amount to about $400 million and imports from Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation are about $222 million per year. In the first quarter of this year, the trade turnover increased by 2.7 times compared to 2018.
Russia supplies Turkmenistan with cars, equipment, vehicles, chemical products, foodstuffs, agricultural raw materials, metals, timber and paper products. Turkmenistan to Russia: textiles, footwear, chemical products, rubber, agricultural raw materials.
It should be added that today 28 thousand students from Turkmenistan study in Russian universities. This year 215 quotas of government scholarships have been allocated. Testing for these scholarships will be held from June 15 to 25.
