Turkmenistan continues to develop its partnership with the WTO

As part of the development of further partnership between Turkmenistan and the World Trade Organization (WTO), an online meeting was held to discuss the country's prospects for joining the WTO.

On behalf of Turkmenistan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs V.Khadzhiev, heads and delegates of a number of ministries and departments took part in the negotiations. On behalf of the World Trade Organization, Ms. Micah Oshikawa, Director of the WTO Accession Department spoke.

In the process of negotiations, the participants exchanged views on the next steps of the Turkmen side, which has received observer status so far. It is noted that this status is the first significant step towards Turkmenistan's full membership in WTO. While in this status, the Turkmen side has an excellent opportunity to learn more about the activities of the Organization, as well as to make comprehensive preparations for negotiations on full membership in it.

During the conversation, Ms. M. Oshikawa addressed to the representatives of Turkmenistan with a congratulatory speech about obtaining observer status, and also said that the WTO Director General has prepared a letter addressed to the deeply respected Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.

The participants of the online talks also considered other issues of further development of partnership. It was also stressed that Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO will boost the country's economic development and will also increase the interest of foreign investors.
