Turkmenistan to play in the CAFA-2025 Nations Cup

Turkmenistan's national soccer team will take part in the CAFA-2025 Nations Cup, which will be held from August 29 to September 8 in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Arzuw.news reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

The tournament will feature eight teams: Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, India and Oman. The Turkmen national team was placed in Group A along with Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Oman.

All Group A matches will be held at Zhar and Olimpiysky stadiums in Tashkent, while Group B matches will be held at the Central Stadium of Hissar, located 12 kilometers west of Dushanbe.

Head coach Rovshan Meredov included 24 players from four Turkmen and two foreign clubs in the squad. The Turkmen team's match calendar: August 30 meeting with Kyrgyzstan, September 2 duel against Uzbekistan and September 5 game with Oman.

At the previous tournament, Turkmenistan failed to qualify for the group stage, drawing 1-1 with Tajikistan and losing to Uzbekistan (0-2) and Oman (0-2).

The reigning champion of the tournament is Iran, who defeated Uzbekistan 1-0 in the 2023 final thanks to Serdar Azmoun's goal in the 48th minute. The CAFA Nations Cup tournament is held every two years among men's national teams.
