An art meeting dedicated to Turkmen music was held in Kiev

The Makhtumkuli Library in Kiev hosted an art meeting "Sounds of Dutar" dedicated to Turkmen song and music art. The event was held on September 18 within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust on the eve of Turkmenistan's Independence Day and International Music Day. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The cultural event was attended by teachers and students of educational institutions, music schools, representatives of the administration of Svyatoshinsky district, as well as Turkmen youth.

The director of the library introduced the guests to the history of the establishment of the institution and the work of the Makhtumkuli Library Museum. A diplomat of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine presented a report on the national musical culture, composer school, traditional instruments and the art of bakhshi.

The representative of the diplomatic corps noted that dutar making skills and the art of bakhshi are included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The main event of the program was the performance of dutarist Serdar Derekov, a representative of the Turkmen diaspora in Ukraine, who performed folk melodies. Pupils and teachers of Kyiv music schools demonstrated concert numbers: a piano duet, a guitar trio and playing the Ukrainian bandura.

During the meeting thematic video materials and photo exhibition were demonstrated and a tour of the Makhtumkuli Museum was organized.
