OHCHR briefing and seminar held in Ashgabat

A briefing and seminar of the UN Office for Human Rights in Central Asia (OHCHR) were held in Ashgabat on July 22 and 23. This was reported by the online edition "CentralAsia.news".

The topic of the briefing was Turkmenistan's implementation of the recommendations of the 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Speaking at the event, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko noted the importance of UPR implementation in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring peace and security, and respect for human rights.

The seminar focused on the recommendations of the Interdepartmental Commission on Turkmenistan's compliance with its human rights and international humanitarian law obligations. The seminar participants were familiarized with the successful practices of other countries.
