Turkmen business forum in Paris to discuss reduction of methane emissions

During the business forum on attracting investment in the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan, which will be held in Paris from April 24 to 25, ways to solve the problem of reducing methane emissions from the crater in Darvaz during the development of hydrocarbon fields will be considered. This is reported by the Westiabad online edition.

Experts and specialists from Turkmenistan, UN, OPEC, IEA and other international companies will present their projects to reduce methane and carbon dioxide emissions. It is noted that there is a potential to reduce harmful emissions at 75%.

Reducing methane emissions is of particular importance in achieving the Sustainable Energy SDGs and in meeting commitments under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The effectiveness of the proposed measures is demonstrated by satellite imagery showing the reduction in combustion between September 2023 and February 2024.
