Avaza, August 7 - Arzuw.news. The National Tourist Zone Avaza hosted the event "Connectivity: Digital Opportunities Beyond Borders" as part of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. This is reported by the publication Turkmenistan: Golden Age.
The meeting was organized by the Office of the United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries and the International Telecommunication Union. The event brought together government representatives from landlocked developing countries, international UN entities, major financial institutions, the private sector and civil society.
UN Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima emphasized the importance of digital trade and services in addressing the challenges of developing countries without maritime access. She emphasized the importance of gender equality in accessing digital services.
Kosmas Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau, focused on the need to strengthen connectivity in those countries, including expanding access to broadband Internet. The meeting introduced the Partner2Connect initiative and the International Telecommunication Union's digital infrastructure investment program.
The participants were familiarized with the initiative of the European Union to support digital transformation in Central Asian countries using satellite communications.
In the afternoon, thematic sessions on transport infrastructure were held. Turkmenistan's initiatives to expand the international East-West and North-South transport and transit corridors were discussed.
The Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union presented examples of effective financing of road transportation through public-private partnerships. The participants considered the importance of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative in the development of transport infrastructure and its relevance to Turkmenistan's strategy to revitalize the Silk Road.
Special attention was paid to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor as an important route between Europe and Asia. The International Civil Aviation Organization presented framework programs to simplify transit operations and improve the safety of transport corridors.
The participants expressed their gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for the high level of organization of the meeting and stressed the importance of an integrated approach to the development of sustainable transport systems.
