Consulate General helped increase trade between Turkmenistan and Tatarstan

The Turkmen Consulate General opened in Kazan has contributed to a fivefold increase in trade turnover between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tatarstan (compared to 2017 data). This news was shared by Radik Vakhitov, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Kazan.

The Consulates General of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have recently been opened in Kazan. Diplomats began active work, thanks to which the trade turnover between the above-mentioned countries and the Republic of Tatarstan has significantly increased compared with the indicators of 2017. For example, Uzbekistan saw a two-fold increase in trade turnover, while Turkmenistan saw a five-fold increase. Vakhitov also noted that Tatarstan will be glad to establish similar cooperation with other CIS countries. Especially those that have not yet opened their own representative offices in Kazan, but are ready to catch up with Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Summing up the results of 2020, the Russian diplomat noted that Tatarstan actively and successfully cooperated in the trade sphere with the EU and CIS countries, as well as with Turkish and Chinese partners. Thus, CIS countries account for about 15% of the republic's total annual trade turnover, and non-CIS countries - 85%. However, in the nearest period the share of CIS countries is expected to grow due to the active work of their Consulates General opened in Kazan.

Turkmenistan opened its Consulate General in the capital of Tatarstan in late 2019.
