The foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan held talks in the online format, discussing key aspects of the interstate partnership. The Turkmen side was represented by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. Acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar participated in the dialogue on the Afghan side.
During the online conference, colleagues noted the high degree of dialogue between the two countries. It is based on good-neighborly and friendly partnership. The parties discussed key tasks of cooperation in the main areas of interstate relations.
Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have successful joint experience in implementing a number of projects in the field of transport and energy, initiated by Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. Among them: the construction of TAPI, construction of railroad tracks, TAP Transmission Line, laying fiber-optic cable. The participants of the meeting noted that the implementation of the above-mentioned projects will contribute to the socio-economic development not only of the participating countries, but also of the region as a whole.
The Afghan Foreign Minister highlighted Turkmenistan's significant contribution to a peaceful solution of the situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The policy of positive neutrality, which Turkmenistan has consistently pursued, contributed in no small measure to this, calling for addressing acute issues in a strictly diplomatic way and in the international legal framework.
The colleagues also exchanged views on a number of topical issues, both for the region and for the international community. The parties noted the important role of further strengthening of interstate partnership in the context of global challenges.
