The meeting of the group on improvements to the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) took place on 2 June 2020, and was organised by videoconference. The meeting was attended by delegates from the European Union, the Energy Charter Secretariat, and representatives from countries such as the UK, Belgium, Austria, France, Slovakia, Japan, Hungary, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, Cyprus, Finland, Georgia, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, and Croatia. Turkmenistan was represented at the meeting by employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Concern "Turkmengaz.
The participants of the online conference discussed issues in the modernization of the ECT, as well as a number of aspects relating to energy transit. The conference also approved a summary of the meeting held in December of last year.
The parties exchanged views on topical issues of energy security, confirming their intention to contribute to improving the reliability and stability of energy transit. In this context, the participants once again stressed the need for coordinated action in the aforementioned areas.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to follow the format of an online conference in subsequent rounds of talks.
