Information about the adoption of the normative act was published in the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper on Thursday. The new law is aimed at ensuring accurate voter registration and increasing the transparency of electoral processes in the country.
According to the document, the surname, name, date of birth, electoral address of citizens, as well as additional information stipulated by the law will be entered into the database. At the same time, the law strictly prohibits the collection of information not related to the purposes of voter registration.
The Central Election Commission at the republican level and authorized bodies under local authorities at the regional level are responsible for maintaining the register. Citizens will have the right to apply for inclusion in the register or to change their personal data.
Information from the register will be used to form voter lists for elections and referendums. The creation of the digital register is part of the national digitalization programs and is aimed at developing the country's electoral system using modern information technologies.
The Act establishes the legal and organizational basis for the creation and maintenance of a register of Turkmen citizens who have the right to vote.
