Seyit Jemaletdin Mosque - the main attraction of the Turkmen city of Anau

The main attraction of the city of Anau, the cultural capital of the Turkic World-2024, is the ruins of the Seyit Cemaletdin Mosque. The Asmannews online edition tells about it.

This historical monument is an embodiment of the best traditions of architectural and artistic styles of the Timurid era. The mosque was destroyed by an earthquake in 1948, but a year before that architect G.A. Pugachenkova made an architectural and artistic description.

The mosque was built in the XV century in honor of Sheikh Jalal-ud-dunya-wa-d-din and consisted of 17 rooms. The monument is located on the precipice of the fortress wall of Anau settlement. The complex includes a mosque, a tombstone and two buildings with domed halls. The peculiarity of the structure was a variety of vaulted structures and colorfulness of facing. Some fragments of the mosque's decoration are now kept in the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan.
