Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov signed a decree aimed at improving the mechanism for issuing passports in the state. Accordingly, the bodies of internal affairs are responsible for issuing passports to citizens of Turkmenistan. The issuance of residence registration, as well as discharge of residence, is also the responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
From the moment of application for a passport to the moment of its issuance, according to the norms of the new decree, it should take no more than 7 working days.
The Prosecutor General and his subordinate prosecutors on the ground will monitor compliance with the law on these issues.
The new legislative act prohibits ministries, departments, local administrations, and other organizations, regardless of their form of ownership, from requiring citizens of Turkmenistan to submit other documents, if all necessary information can be confirmed by showing a passport.
The bodies of internal affairs of Turkmenistan, the authorities in the regions and the Ashkhabad administration, with the assistance of the Ministry of Justice, have been instructed to introduce amendments and additions to a number of legislative acts stemming from the above-mentioned decree.
