As K. Iljanov, a scientist from the Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University, noted in an analytical article centralasia.newsThe Turkmen logistics center, which is planned to be built in the Astrakhan region, will contribute to the growth of Turkmen-Russian trade turnover in no small measure. The parties agreed on this after the visit of the governor of the region Igor Babushkin to Ashkhabad.
The convenient location of the center will allow producers of Turkmen goods to ensure rapid delivery not only to Russian regions, but also to enter European markets. According to the results of January-September 2021, the volume of foreign trade turnover of the Turkmen state with this region of Russia reached $200 million.
As noted in the press service of I.Babushkin, the Turkmen-Astrakhan trade interaction has great potential. Companies operating in Astrakhan Region are ready to supply timber, nets, grain, pipes, fish feed and agricultural products to Turkmenistan. The region can also increase the volume of purchases of fruits and vegetables, polypropylene, textiles, cotton and other products from Turkmenistan.
Over 60 subjects of the Russian Federation successfully work with Turkmenistan. Regular mutual visits of delegations contribute to strengthening cooperation. About 190 companies from Russia also operate in Turkmenistan. Among them are Tatneft, Kamaz and others.
The activities of the Russian-Turkmen intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation as well as the high-level Group formed on its basis make a significant contribution to expanding trade and economic relations. The Group's activities are aimed at supporting investment and trade operations.
There is progress in the Russian-Turkmen relations in the scientific, cultural and humanitarian spheres. More than 28 thousand Turkmen students study in Russian universities.
