The 25th plenary meeting of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on October 24 considered and adopted a draft resolution "Peace, Confidence and Cooperation Zone of Central Asia" on the initiative of Turkmenistan. It is reported Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan's initiative was presented by A. Ataeva, Turkmenistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, expressing gratitude to the UN members for supporting the initiative to create a peace zone in Central Asia.
The formation of a zone of peace was made possible through the establishment by the countries of the region of a reliable institutional and legal framework for multilateral cooperation. It was noted that in this context the regular Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of the countries of the region are of particular importance. The resolution was adopted by consensus and co-sponsored by 37 countries.
