Russian Ministry of Health: Russia has registered the world's first vaccine against COVID-19

The Russian Ministry of Health announced today that the first vaccine against a new coronavirus has been registered in the Russian Federation. "Sputnik V" is the name of the new vaccine against COVID-19, which was registered today by the Russian Ministry of Health. The department said in a statement that this development is of great importance to the global community. The stated date of entry into civil circulation is January 1, 2021.

According to the head of the Russian Ministry of Health M. Murashko, the Russian-made vaccine confirmed high safety and efficacy. According to the results of clinical experiments, high titers of antibodies to COVID-19 and absence of serious complications from vaccine administration were registered among the participants (two groups of 38 people each).

The peculiarity of Gam-CovID-Vac is a double administration regimen, which ensures long-lasting immunity (up to 2 years). The vaccine is based on human adenovirus and does not contain COVID-19 virus.
