The play "Pursat" won the Grand Prix of the TURKSOY Festival

Makhtumkuli Fraghi: Through Moments to Eternity

The National Musical Drama Theater named after Makhtumkuli opened the theater season for the second year in a row with the play "Pursat" ("Mig"), which this year won the Grand Prix at the Second International Theater Festival of TURKSOY countries. Arzuw.news reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

Zhanysh Kulumbetov, a member of the festival's jury, emphasized the innovative nature of the production, noting that similar performances had not been staged before. Young director Mekan Dzhumabaev created a unique interpretation by turning to Makhtumkuli's poetry rather than to biographical facts from the classic's life.

Specialists of the Institute of Manuscripts and cinematographer Rakhimberdy Annagulliev, known as the author of the films "Istarin" and "Atalar ve ogullar", took part in the production. The production is a scientific and poetic treatise on the philosophy of creativity of the great Turkmen poet.

The text of the play consists entirely of Makhtumkuli's poems, and every element of the scenography has a symbolic meaning. The black and white curtains represent the change of day and night, with more white in the final scene, which means the expectation of a bright future. The back of the stage is decorated with manuscripts of the poet's works.

The performance of the main role by actor Dovlet Berdyev, who plays Makhtumkuli barefoot as a metaphor for the openness of poetic thoughts, attracts special attention. The play ends with a symbolic scene of the actor walking along the parapet in the dark, which reflects the poet's life "like a knife blade".

The multilayered nature of the director's idea attracts the audience who come to the performance repeatedly, as it is necessary to watch the production several times to understand all the artistic ideas.
