Students from Turkmenistan won prizes in the World Belt Wrestling Cup

Students from Turkmenistan studying higher education at the Elabuga Institute of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University won prizes in the World Belt Wrestling Cup. The competition took place in Ufa (Bashkortostan, Russia). Information about this is available on the website of the Consulate General of Turkmenistan in Russia (Kazan, Tatarstan).

Emirkhan Esenov, competing in the 75 kg weight group, got a "bronze", and Bayramoraz Guvanzhov, competing in the 62 kg weight group, got a "silver". The tournament brought together more than 200 participants from 26 countries.

Athletes from Turkmenistan mastering belt wrestling demonstrated excellent results in this discipline at the 27th World University Games held in Kazan, Russia in 2013. Then they won 2 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals. The next year Ulyanovsk (Russia) played host to the World Junior Championship where athletes under 20 years old competed. This time the masters of belt wrestling from Turkmenistan won three medals of each kind - gold, silver and bronze.

During the last decade gorosh, the Turkmen national belt wrestling, has been gaining increasing popularity around the world. This particular kind of sport boasts deep historical roots and is now one of the symbols of the historical and cultural uniqueness of the Turkmen nation. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov initiated the creation of the World Gorsesh Federation in 2015.

The mentioned sport for the first time was introduced in the program of the V Asian Games - indoor and martial arts competitions. The event was held in September 2017 in Ashgabat. Masters of the Turkmen national wrestling gorosh then managed to win 23 gold, 14 silver and 9 bronze medals.
