Representatives of Turkmenistan and Japan discussed the prospects of partnership in the field of fuel and energy complex. Negotiations between state concerns "Türkmenhimiýa" and "Türkmengaz" with Mitsubishi Corporation were held via video link. In the course of the virtual meeting they discussed aspects of agreements reached earlier. They also considered options for possible partnership in the oil and gas and chemical industries.
The Turkmen and Japanese sides already have successful experience of bilateral cooperation. Launch of the largest plant "Garabogazkarbamid" in the region is the latest example of the Turkmen-Japanese cooperation. The main focus of the enterprise is production of nitrogen fertilizers, demand for which remains consistently high worldwide.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov's visit to Japan was a milestone in the Turkmen-Japanese cooperation. The leader of the Turkmen nation visited the Land of the Rising Sun last October as part of his working trip. As a result, a number of documents were agreed upon, including those concerning Mitsubishi's participation in the construction of a new urea and ammonia plant in Turkmenistan.
In the oil and gas industry, Japan and Turkmenistan also have considerable potential as partners. The cooperation will take place within the framework of industry diversification, development of an extensive system of gas exports and construction of innovative complexes, the main specialization of which will be the processing of natural gas and production of various types of gas chemical products.
During the videoconference the parties also discussed the preparation of an indicative technical project of the gas production plant. The plant is expected to produce 10 billion cubic meters of marketable gas annually. The construction of the plant is part of the next stage of the plan for the industrial development of the large-scale Galkynysh gas field.
