Turkmenistan and Japan held consultations on the Afghan issue. Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev met with Japanese Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, diplomat Katsuhiko Takahashi, via video link.

The participants of the negotiations presented the views of their countries on the situation in Afghanistan. It was noted that the "Afghan" issue continues to be under the scrutiny of the world community, as it is directly related to security in the region and in the world.

Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khadzhiev once again stressed that Turkmenistan insists that the process of returning Afghanistan to a peaceful life should be carried out exclusively with the use of political and diplomatic measures. The country should be involved in key processes of the global economy and provide it with all kind of humanitarian assistance.

Ambassador Katsuhiko Takahashi on behalf of Japan expressed support for Turkmenistan's beliefs on this issue. The diplomat praised the projects in the field of transport and energy, implementation of which in Afghanistan is promoted by the Turkmen side. Including humanitarian initiatives.

The special representative of Japan has confirmed that his state will realize the financial support of Afghanistan in the period from 2021 to 2024, in the amount of several million dollars. The funds will be used to meet humanitarian needs and to further the progress of the state.

The diplomats exchanged views on further development of the situation in Afghanistan and agreed to continue an active dialogue with a view to building optimal forms of interaction on the "Afghan" issue.
