Turkmenistan confirms course on strengthening bilateral ties

On October 7, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev within the framework of his working visit to the country, the news website reported. Asmannews.

During the talks, the sides discussed topical issues of bilateral relations, emphasizing the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan in political, economic and cultural spheres. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed greetings and best wishes from Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Ilham Aliyev.

The sides noted the systematic nature of cooperation and regularity of contacts at the highest level. It was noted that this is the third meeting of the leaders this year: earlier in July, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Azerbaijan, and in August, Ilham Aliyev paid a visit to Turkmenistan.

The sides also discussed issues of regional and world politics, including Azerbaijan's support for Turkmenistan's initiatives in the field of neutrality. The National Leader of the Turkmen people invited the President of Azerbaijan to take part in the International Forum on Peace and Trust to be held on December 12 in Ashgabat in honor of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in the Caspian region. The leaders agreed to intensify five-sided cooperation on security, environment, trade, navigation and science. The Turkmen side reaffirmed its readiness to participate in the upcoming Summit of the Caspian Heads of State and proposed to include environmental safety of the sea among the key topics of discussion.

In the economic sphere, the sides discussed the prospects of expanding trade turnover and more active use of opportunities of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani Commission. The sides also touched upon transportation, logistics, energy, agriculture, textile industry and introduction of new technologies.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation remains a priority. The practice of holding Days of Culture, joint concerts, exhibitions and festivals has been confirmed. This year, the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan are planned in Baku and Ganja. In addition, the sides discussed joint projects in carpet weaving and breeding of Akhalteke and Karabakh horses.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed their commitment to further strengthening of bilateral relations and exchanged best wishes.
