Vienna, July 1 - Arzuw.news. A delegation of Turkmenistan is taking part in the WTO Regional Workshop on the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures for the Countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus, which is being held in the Austrian capital from July 1 to 3, 2025, Arzuw.news reports with reference to the MRC of Turkmenistan.
The event is organized by the WTO Secretariat together with the Joint Vienna Institute within the framework of the WTO Biennial Technical Assistance and Training Plan 2024-2025. The main objective of the workshop is to enhance the effective participation of countries in the region in the work of the WTO and to deepen understanding of the provisions of the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures.
The workshop addresses the transparency framework for sanitary and phytosanitary measures, the activities of the WTO Committee in this area, as well as initiatives of the International Plant Protection Convention, the World Organization for Animal Health and the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
The Turkmen delegation is represented by specialists from the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, and the agency "Turkmenstandartlary".
Arslan Soltanmyradov, Head of the International and Scientific Relations Department of the State Veterinary Service, delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan at the opening ceremony. He emphasized Turkmenistan's commitment to fulfilling its international obligations in the field of sanitary and phytosanitary measures and the importance of strengthening technical and human capacity.
The Turkmen representatives plan to discuss the implementation of the provisions of the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, exchange experience with colleagues and explore opportunities to expand international cooperation.
