WHO and UNICEF briefing on COVID-19 prevention held in Ashgabat

A video briefing was held in the capital of Turkmenistan - WHO and UNICEF told the media about the quality of information about COVID-19 preventive measures. Representatives of the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international organizations also participated in the video briefing in Ashgabat. Employees of local news agencies were also invited to the event.

The video conference was opened by the Head of the WHO Country Office P. Karvovska and UNICEF Representative K. Weygand, who welcomed all those present. During the speeches, it was noted that the Turkmen leader, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, has repeatedly advocated cooperation to prevent the spread of COVID-19 disease at the international level. First and foremost, this applies to measures to protect and promote human health. An important role in the effective solution of the set tasks is given to promoting among the population the observance of personal sanitary and hygienic norms and combating atmospheric pollution.

The participants of the briefing noted the rapid response of Turkmenistan to the threats of the COVID-19 pandemic. The promotion of a healthy lifestyle, a set of preventive measures against the spread of infections and non-communicable diseases allowed the state to avoid many of the problems faced by most of the world's powers.

At the end of the briefing, participants had a constructive exchange of views on the formation of a global mechanism for the rapid prevention of crisis situations. The participants unanimously emphasized that health care is the basis for sustainable development.
