As part of the agreement between the authorities of Turkmenistan and UNICEF The first shipment of vaccines arrived in Ashgabat on March 10 against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, Haemophilus influenzae, hepatitis B and tuberculosis.
In the current conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic it is critical to protect the population from infectious diseases by continuing routine immunization of children. For this purpose, the Government of Turkmenistan has decided to increase funding for vaccine procurement within the framework of agreements with UNICEF for 2021-2025.
According to UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan K. WeygandThe Turkmen authorities' investment in immunization has made it possible to achieve universal coverage, which Prevents disease outbreaks and provides effective preventive control of them.
UNICEF is involved in supporting services responsible for implementing the immunization plan, as well as supporting Government of Turkmenistan and WHO in the development and implementation of a national vaccination plan against COVID-19.
