Ashgabat, July 16 - Arzuw.news. The Chess Federation of Turkmenistan simultaneously held qualification tournaments of the second league in four regions of the country with the participation of 382 chess players. This is reported by the publication Turkmenistan: Golden Age.
The competitions were held in Ashgabat, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary velayats. Among the participants there were 115 women who competed in a separate category.
The second league was created in 2023 as a preliminary qualifying stage for the Turkmenistan championship of the first league. The system is aimed at identifying new chess talents in the regions.
In each velayat 10 tickets to the first league of the national championship to be held at the end of 2025 were drawn. Representatives of Akhal velayat and Arkadag city also took part in the Ashgabat stage.
The winners in the women's category were: Oguljeren Saparova (Ashgabat), Dilber Khupbyeva (Dashoguz), Jeren Bakhtiyarova (Lebap) and Ejegyz Amanova (Mary). In the open category the first places were taken by Azatgeldi Amangeldiev (Ashgabat), Muhammetnur Baigeldiev (Dashoguz), Serdar Bayramov (Lebap) and Rauf Yusupov (Mary).
In 2025, for the first time, Grand Prix series tournaments are launched in each velayat center, which gives the opportunity to break directly into the top league.
Chairman of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan Vepa Myalikgulyev noted the emergence of chess enthusiasts in velayats, who contribute to the organization of tournaments.
