An international airport was opened in Kerki, Lebap region of Turkmenistan. The opening ceremony of the air terminal was held with the participation of the head of Turkmenistan and the state leadership. The Turkmen leader inspected the facility, visited the passenger terminal waiting room, apron, CIP hall.
The capacity of the air terminal is one hundred people / hour, it can simultaneously take two large airliners and four helicopters. The international status of the airport is determined by its strategic location between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
The construction of the air terminal was carried out by the Turkmen non-governmental enterprise "Gündogdy" by the order of "Türkmenhowaýollary". The area of the three-storey building of the passenger terminal is over 2,200 square meters, the height of the control tower is 31.7 meters. The halls of the terminal are glazed with continuous UV-protection systems. The complex includes a central lobby, baggage screening and check-in areas, ticket offices, information desk, cafes, gift store and newspaper store, pharmacy, medical center and waiting area. Cumulative departure hall can accommodate up to 120 people, it includes a cafe, a room for mother and child, a prayer room. For citizens with special restrictions the airport is equipped with convenient ramps, ramps, and threshold-free crossings.
The total area of the airfield is 42.3 thousand square meters. Equipped with modern systems, the runway is 2,700 m long and 45 m wide. The infrastructure includes emergency and rescue service, fire department, technical unit, special equipment garage, transformer substations, additional infrastructure facilities.
The security systems of Kerki airfield are supplemented with protective fencing, engineering protection against flooding / waterlogging, a system of collecting sediment water for its further use in the airport irrigation.
The Kerki airport complex is expected to boost cargo and passenger transportation not only in Lebap velayat of Turkmenistan, but also between neighboring states.
The development of a network of small airfields is part of the strategy of renewal of the national sphere of transport, taking into account the realization of the state's potential in an international context.
After the launch of the air terminal in Lebap velayat, the next step is the construction of an air complex in Djebel in Balkan velayat of Turkmenistan. a tender for the implementation of this project was announced.
