Embroidery in Turkmenistan could become a global intangible cultural heritage

The Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan discussed adding the art of Turkmen embroidery to the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The discussion with the participation of representatives of the UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office was held in the video mode.

Considering the tasks of preparing joint proposals with the Iranian side, the negotiators discussed the multinominal file "The Art of Embroidery. The clip tells about the art of needlework, which the Turkmen nation has practiced since ancient times. Today, it has become one of the fundamental parts of the nation's heritage.

Hand embroidery has always been a reflection of the identity of Turkmen traditions. Recognizing its great importance on a global scale, UNESCO will contribute to the preservation of the abovementioned variety of national art, strengthening the links between different cultures.

Earlier, the II meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO was also held. It was devoted to the tasks of further inscribing a number of Turkmen historical and cultural monuments on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
