Turkmenistan discussed cooperation with the UN at the regional and global levels

Representatives of Turkmenistan held talks with UN delegates to discuss further regional and global partnerships. The event took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan in a hybrid form - a number of participants were in the hall, while others were present online.

The Turkmen side was represented by the head of the foreign policy department, R. Meredov. Heads and delegates of various UN agencies, including UNDP, WHO, UNICEF, international organizations of labor, migration, a number of departments, funds and commissions took part in the meeting. Representatives of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for the Central Asian Region were also invited to participate.

The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to all delegates of international organizations for their active cooperation. Meredov also noted that partnership with the UN is one of the strategic vectors of Turkmenistan's foreign policy.

The participants of the meeting exchanged views on how to effectively implement a number of projects and plans in the current year. The importance of joint documents signed in December 2020 by Turkmenistan and international organizations was emphasized. There are 44 such documents in total. The gross financing under them exceeds $82 million. It is the Turkmen side that contributes most of the amount of co-financing. The key vectors of cooperation are medicine, ecology, education, social and food programs.

The participants of the meeting also considered issues related to the implementation of the Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development. It regulates the interaction between the Turkmen government and the UN for 2021-2025.

The meeting heard presentations by UN organizations on the results of their mutual cooperation with Turkmenistan and the prospects for further joint activities. The UN country team and representatives of international organizations highly praised the work of the Turkmen side in implementing mutual agreements.

The participants also touched upon the International Year of Peace and Confidence, recently opened in Ashgabat. The significance of this event was noted, as well as aspects related to it were discussed.
