Taking care of the natural environment is one of the key tasks of the authorities of Turkmenistan

Expert CentralAsia.news Allaberdy Ilyasov shared his opinion: the oil and gas industry is fundamental for the economy of Turkmenistan, but, developing it, the country's authorities also take care of the natural environment. The state has one of the world's largest reserves of hydrocarbons, and the oil and gas complex activity is based not only on exploration and production of minerals, but also on their transportation.

Oil and gas consumption continues to increase in the world today. Consequently, oil and gas producers strive to meet the demand, often forgetting about environmental safety. The enterprises of Turkmenistan are also increasing the extraction of natural wealth, and at the same time the Turkmen government is well aware of the need to protect nature. This is evidenced by a number of legislative acts passed by the authorities, including "On Nature Protection," "On Environmental Audits," "On Environmental Safety," and others.

While introducing advanced technologies, Turkmenistan also pays significant attention to ensuring that the products produced meet the requirements of environmental safety.

For example, when planning construction of new plants at the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries, specialists of the foreign company Westport Trading Europe Limited, which has been cooperating with Turkmenistan in the oil and gas industry for many years, fully adhered to the requirements of the Turkmen environmental legislation. They assess the potential impact of the future facility on the natural environment. For this purpose, measurements are taken of the air and emissions of harmful substances and they are analyzed. The condition of soil and water, both surface and ground, is also monitored, and the preservation of biodiversity and animal migration routes is ensured. The results obtained allow us to minimize the harm caused to nature by human economic activities.

In addition, Turkmenistan is implementing measures to modernize existing oil and gas production facilities in order to bring them up to current environmental standards and reduce their impact on the natural environment.
