Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with his counterpart from the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev for the purpose of inter-Ministerial consultations on a number of topical issues. The event was held in the format of a video conference.
The participants in the talks touched on important issues concerning Turkmen-Kyrgyz relations in such areas as politics and diplomacy, culture, trade and economy, as well as the humanitarian sphere. Separately, the sides noted the need to organize a number of high-level visits this year.
The need for more active political consultations between the Turkmen and Kyrgyz Foreign Ministries was noted. The participants also noted the similarity of positions of the two countries on key regional and global issues. They also discussed interaction within the framework of various organizations - CIS, UN and others.
The ministers discussed ties in the trade and economic sphere. The possibility of more active work on organization and holding expert meetings was discussed. The sides discussed prospects for partnership in agriculture, energy and transport. Regular meetings of the Turkmen-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission on mutual cooperation in trade, economy, science and a number of other areas should contribute to their development.
The diplomats also touched upon issues of improving existing cultural and humanitarian ties. Contacts in the cultural, educational and sports fields are especially promising in this direction, which have been decided to carry out during the current year.
