The Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan is building its institutional capacity in cooperation with UNDP. To this end, a series of trainings were conducted on the basis of the general project on the empowerment of the organization. The relevant project training was conducted in conjunction with an online course on accreditation processes by the Global Alliance of Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) in the context of the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF) program.
During several days the Turkmen delegates were familiarized with the features of the ATF program, which is in the list of key interstate partners in the process of improvement. During the event such topics as raising awareness of ATF Sub-Committee participants on accreditation issues; general development in the sphere of jurisprudence and discussion of practical experience the participants already have in implementation of GANPZU accreditation processes, getting recommendations; improvement of accreditation outcomes for possible and existing participants and many other things were studied.
In addition to delegates from Asia-Pacific nations, participants in the multi-day seminar included representatives from Jordan.
This project, which Turkmenistan is implementing in cooperation with the UN, is aimed at improving the human rights system and supporting and respecting human rights in the country. In this regard, the national legal framework is being reviewed with the aim of bringing it into line with Turkmenistan's international human rights obligations. One of the steps in this direction is also building the institutional capacities of the Ombudsman's Office in the country.
