UNICEF sent to Ashgabat a large shipment of dexamethasone, a popular medical drug widely used in the treatment of respiratory viral diseases. The drug was delivered to Turkmenistan in the form of tablets and injectable medicines worth $413,000.
Distribution of medicines to medical institutions of Turkmenistan is planned in the near future. The batch of medicines will ensure the maximum degree of readiness of the country to implement the health program adopted by the government. The program includes a list of measures that are necessary to effectively counteract acute infectious diseases and coronavirus infection in particular.
Dexamethasone is a tested drug that has proven highly effective against respiratory diseases. This is not the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that UNICEF has supported the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan. Previously, the fund provided 5,400 dispensaries and other hygiene supplies to Ashgabat to fight the pandemic.
