UN Secretary General thanks Turkmenistan for Avaza conference

Letter to the President of Turkmenistan

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the successful holding of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. This is reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

The large-scale international event was held in Avaza from August 5 to 8 under the leadership of Turkmenistan. The conference was attended by heads of state and government, as well as representatives of civil society, youth and media from all over the world.

The forum resulted in the adoption of two key documents, the Awazi Political Declaration and the Awazi Program of Action. These documents represent an ambitious action plan for the next decade, which is closely linked to the Pact for the Future and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The program aims to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals with a particular focus on trade facilitation, structural transformation, transport connectivity, technology development and climate resilience.

The UN chief stressed the importance of mobilizing international support for landlocked developing countries. Guterres also expressed readiness for close cooperation with Turkmenistan in the implementation of the action program adopted in Avaza.
