UNICEF and the Ministry of Ecology of Turkmenistan discussed climate risks for children

UNICEF together with the Ministry of Environment Protection of Turkmenistan held a round table in Ashgabat to prepare the country's third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), which centered on the protection of children and youth from climate risks. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the source.

The event was held on August 27 to discuss the role of children and youth as the most vulnerable groups to climate change. According to the organizers, children and young people under 24 make up almost half of Turkmenistan's population - about 3.2 million people.

The roundtable addressed key areas of climate policy, including climate education, energy efficiency in schools and kindergartens, health and environment, water and sanitation, nutrition and social protection.

Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Turkmenistan Alexandru Nartea emphasized the importance of including the voices of children and youth at the center of the country's climate policy.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Ecology, Finance and Economy, Education, Health, Labor and Social Protection, Energy and Construction, as well as youth organizations.

This initiative is part of UNICEF's long-term work to support Turkmenistan's efforts to combat climate change. The organization plans to continue its cooperation to ensure that children's rights and interests are taken into account in national climate strategies.
