Administrative and territorial reform expected in Turkmenistan

The Mejlis of Turkmenistan passed a resolution to respect all earlier agreements on the administrative-territorial division of the country. This is necessary to improve the territorial structure of certain districts, taking into account the petitions of city and regional administrations.

According to the resolution of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, some subjects will be abolished, others will be changed in rights and expanded. The document provides for the description of all administrative territories - this task was assigned to the regional administrations and the Ministry of Agriculture.

At the same time, the powers of the members of people's assemblies and associations of administrative-territorial units shall be preserved for the entire period prescribed by the legislation of Turkmenistan at the time of their election.

For the first time since independence, Turkmenistan is undergoing such a large-scale administrative-territorial reform.
