Hero of Turkmenistan cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko sets a new record

Hero of Turkmenistan, Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko has set a new record for the total duration of stay in space. This was reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".

Kononenko's first space flight took place in 2008. The cosmonaut is now on his fifth flight to the ISS, which began on September 15, 2023 on the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft. Together with the Russian cosmonaut, Russian Nikolai Chub and American Loral O'Hara went into space.

The previous record for being in space belongs to Gennady Padalka and is 878 days 11 hours 29 minutes and 48 seconds. Oleg Kononenko will complete his mission on the ISS on September 23, 2024, which means that by that day he will become the first cosmonaut to spend more than a thousand days in space.
