Turkmenistan has approved a new Civil Code

A new Civil Code has been adopted in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, July 30 - Arzuw.news. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed the Law on approval of the new Civil Code, which will come into force on January 1, 2026. Arzuw.news reports with reference to the Information Center Business Turkmenistan.

This was reported by the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper on Wednesday. The new document will become the basis for regulation of civil-law relations in the country and will replace the current legislation.

When the new code comes into force, all previously adopted laws relating to the former Civil Code will cease to be in force. This applies to the regulatory acts of 1998, 2003, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2019.

The new Civil Code will regulate all legal relations arising after January 1, 2026. For obligations existing before this date, the norms of the new document apply only to rights and obligations that will arise after its introduction.

The legislation provides for the possibility for participants in existing legal relations to switch to regulation under the new code if the parties mutually agree. Previously existing legal acts will continue to be applied until their harmonization with the updated legislation, provided there are no contradictions.
