Meredov meets with US Secretary of State Rubio

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on August 20. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The current state and prospects of development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as discussion of issues of mutual interest were the central topics of the meeting.

The participants in the talks placed special emphasis on political and diplomatic interaction both at the bilateral level and within the framework of international organizations. The sides emphasized the importance of regular contacts between the foreign ministries, including annual bilateral consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the U.S. Department of State.

Economic partnership was identified as a priority area of bilateral relations with special emphasis on investment and technological cooperation. The participants of the meeting noted the important role of the Turkmen-American Business Council, which brings together leading American companies.

The diplomats also discussed the expansion of cooperation in the spheres of education, science, culture and other socially important areas.

Following the talks, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan and the U.S. Secretary of State reached an agreement to continue regular contacts to further intensify Turkmen-American relations.
